I really love this image. What a great subject! There's only a couple things I can really critique:
I would perhaps sharpen the image, especially the beak. The eyes are mostly sharp, but I would give them a little bit of a boost. Perhaps I would soften the feathers directly under the beak to match the level of blur of the feathers around them and give the appearance of the beak and eyes being sharper.
I would also give the whole image a little bit of an exposure and contrast boost as it looks just a tad underexposed.
Overall I think it's a great image and leaves quite an impact. I love the crop and the angle. I really like that the owl is looking off camera. It gives him this lovely little head tilt. The soft brown and tan color palette is very enjoyable too.
Great work and a splendid capture.
Thank you so much for your detailed critique! Great minds think alike, because I've already sharpened the image, and upped the contrast and exposure. Unfortunately, the owls' enclosure is very dim. They probably like it that way, but it's awfully inconvenient for me. I never want to go overboard with adjustments, and I've already toyed with this image a fair amount. I might play around with it some more though, with fresh eyes and your critique in mind. Thanks again!
